Minimum Narrow Gauge Railways
Perrygrove Railway
The Perrygrove Railway is a 15 inch minimum narrow gauge railway in the heart of the Forest of Dean, and we see PR 2-6-2T 'Lydia' and PR 0-6-2T 'Anne' as they tackle the line's tortous twists and challenging gradients on 28th August 2017. The railway was inspired by the minimum gauge estate railways developed by Sir Arthur Heywood at the end of the 19th century, including his pioneering Duffield Bank Railway and Eaton Hall Railways. Developed on the Perrygrove Farm Estate by the Croft Family from 1993, the railway operates for a round trip of 3 miles from Perrygrove to Oakiron and in this film we see two of the railway's resident locomotives in action, 'Lydia' a 2-6-2T Prairie with Hackworth valve gear and which is due for withdrawal later this year for overhaul, and 'Anne,' which was previously at Longleat Railway and named No. 6 'John Hayton,' which arrived at Perrygrove in February 2015 and entered service in September 2016. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HK7-RoGmcBg
PR 0-6-2T Anne
Built by the Exmoor Steam Railway, PR 0-6-2T 'Anne' was purchased by the Perrygrove Railway in 2015 from the Longleat Railway, where she had been running as No. 6 John Hayton. Entering traffic in September 2016 and renamed as 'Anne,' after the owner's wife, we see 'Anne' hard at work climbing the tortous gradients of the Perrygrove Railway on 28th August 2017. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QppK2GcgWUU
PR 2-6-2T Lydia
Built by Alan Keef Ltd in 2008, we see the modern 2-6-2T Prairie 'Lydia' hard at work over the tortous gradients of the Perrygrove Railway on 28th August 2017. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwG7mGPn8uM
